In the room where it happened…

The Fulton House has long been associated with the legendary Nancy Boggs and her floating bordello on the Willamette River. Is this house, long since moved to its present location, the original floating structure where Mrs. Boggs plied her trade in the 1880’s? All evidence suggests it is so….

Nancy Boggs, and her floating enterprise had developed quite a reputation by the time Portland and her sister towns realized that they too could capitalize on her business by taxing her liquor consumption. It then became a cat and mouse game as she moved her thriving business back and forth across the river, one paddle ahead of which ever municipality was on her tail at the time.

And now, as if 1880’s  notoriety wasn’t enough for Nancy Boggs, she and her workplace endeavors are again being highlighted in Portland’s entertainment world.
